The Immobilizer chip is an RFID device that carries a permanent ID #. The immobilizer in the instrument cluster is told what that number is when the key is matched to the vehicle. If you swap this chip to a new key housing you would be using the same RFID chip as your old key. As far as the Immobilizer is concerned it is the same Key. No change.
I was able to remove the chip from my key fob but I glued it to the steering column just under the key slot. Now I can have a key made anywhere and it will start my car.
When the RFID chip is recognized, the Immobilizer module sends a random code back to the key. The module and the key perform a verification via a matching calculation. When the proper key is recognized and authorized, the IMMO module sends the start authorization to the ECM. Not sure about the VW ones, but the aftermarket ones are silly easy to get the chips out of. If there is a red colored spot on the fob, it is a drawer you can push open to slip the chip out of.
