Quick question about the Microsoft Remote Desktop App. I have a situation where a USB Smart Card Reader is not being detected in the “Microsoft Remote Desktop” App, BUT it is detected in the Built in RDP Client in Windows 10.
When I start remote session without a token connected to the computer, I see the message "A smart card reader was not detected. Please attach a smart card reader and try again". The only way to continue is to close the the Remote Desktop Connection window, connect the token and launch RDP file again. I found that adding the -p - option to the command line solved the problem, e.g. rdesktop machine.domain.com -u user -p - When I use an invocation like that it'll then ask for a password in the terminal before starting the RDP session, then log in . Directly connect the USB smart card reader on Host B. Host B able to detect the reader. I have also confirmed that the smart card able to detect on host A when connected directly. When specifying IP in mstsc.exe, smart card option was checked under Local devices and resources on Host A.
